2017-18 PVYHA

Recently, four of our PVL teams played in the GSL playoffs. ALL FOUR TEAMS MADE THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!! This was a very strong showing for Pioneer Valley and speaks volumes to the effort and heart put in by all players and coaches!

The Squirt 2 team beat a very good Franklin County team 3-2 on Saturday afternoon lead by goalie Myles Besner coming up with some huge saves right until the final buzzer. The win set up a showdown with their season rival Westfield in the 10U East Championship game. Both teams showed up ready to play Sunday morning bright and early for the 7:00 A.M. game. Both teams skated hard but Westfield was able to pull off the win. Great job Squirt 2. #lightningproud

The Squirt 1 team was the next PVL team up. The Squirt 1's had a bye coming into the playoffs as the number 1 seed. They went 23-0 in the regular season. The first team standing in the way of the Squirts 1's was Brattleboro. This game was a physical game by both teams with our Squirt 1's coming out on top. The Squirt 1's next played Amherst Red in the 10U North Championship game. This was again a fast and physical game played by both teams. The game was highlighted by an old school double pad stack save on a break away to preserve the shut out with 4 minutes to go in the game by Lightning goalie Gavin Carpenter. The Squirt 1's won the game and the Championship 5-0 finishing the GSL season a perfect 25-0! Great job Squirt 1 #lightningproud

The Peewee 2's started their playoff run against a very familiar foe, Ludlow. The Peewee 2's had not been able to figure out how to beat Ludlow, that was until playoffs! The peewee 2's came out strong and fast. The team was lead by a Jake Owczarski hat trick and Ethan Kumiega standing on his head in goal. 4-1 Lightning! Onto the 12U East Championship game against Amherst. Our Peewee 2's came out sluggish and found themselves down 2-0. But our team came back strong after one of Coach Tom's famous pep talks! They came roaring back and and tied the game on a Jack Rad goal late in the third sending the game to overtime! Kumiega came up with some huge saves throughout the game and saved some of his best for overtime. The teams traded chances, but in the end Amherst takes the game 3-2. Great job Peewee 2's. #lightningproud

Lastly, the Bantams who came into the playoffs with a bye. The Bantams started off with a Friday night game against Nonotuck Valley. The Bantams won the game 3-2. While the score was close, the feel in the rink was that our Bantams had this game in hand early on. Onto the 14U South Championship game! The Bantams faced a team that had beaten them the previous year, the Capitals. This game was back and forth for two periods. Lightning goalie Dylan Rooney was huge in net all game. Nick Shea (2 goals) and Carson Langlois (3 goals) took the game over offensively and the Lightning defense buckled down. 5-3 Lightning win! Great job Bantams! #lightningproud
